Filipina fitness instructor found dead at Qurum home

Muscat: A 51-year-old Filipina woman has been found dead in her apartment in Qurum Heights, Times of Oman has learned.

Maria Lourdes Salvidar Montarde, a mother of four from General Santos City, Philippines, was a fitness instructor at the PDO health club in Ras Al Hamra.

A client of the health club, who became friends with Maria, told Times of Oman that she was supposed to meet Maria on Friday morning but when she called her, Maria’s mobile was switched off.
She said that she tried calling Maria several more times and even sent text messages, but got no response. Maria was last seen at the gym probably on Monday or Tuesday, she added.

Later, her friend alerted the employees at the PDO health club, who also noticed Maria’s absence. The staff contacted the Royal Oman Police (ROP), who entered her apartment and found the body on Sunday.

One of Maria’s friends said on the condition of anonymity that she was shocked and saddened by her death. She described Maria as “a responsible, big-hearted woman- who was working here to support her children back in the Philippines.

“She was a decent, hardworking person. She had four children to support and she worked really hard from morning to night to achieve that. She was a responsible and dedicated trainer, and likeable and personal,- her friend said. “In the short time that I knew her, she never disappointed me. She took her classes seriously and was always on time and well-prepared.-

Times of Oman contacted Maria’s sponsor, Ocean International LCC, but they refused to comment. Officials at the Embassy of the Philippines could not confirm the victim’s nationality, but an ROP investigation into Maria’s death is underway.
